Description
These Belgian OD Leg Wraps — traditionally known as puttees — are genuine military surplus, originally issued to Belgian troops for field service. Wrapped spirally around the lower leg from boot to knee, they shield the calf and ankle from brush, thorns, mud, snow, and biting insects, while adding warmth and supportive compression on long marches and across rough ground. For collectors, reenactors, and surplus enthusiasts, they represent a classic piece of 20th-century European infantry kit that saw widespread use across many armies well into the post-war era.
Authentic Belgian Military Surplus
As original-issue gear pulled from Belgian stores, these puttees carry the real provenance that reproductions simply can't match. Each pair has lived a service life, and as with all used surplus, expect honest field-use character — variations in shade, light fading, minor pilling, or small marks. That patina is part of the appeal for living history displays, WWI/WWII-era impressions, and vintage field kits.
Construction & Materials
- Heavy olive drab wool-blend fabric with a dense, brushed nap for warmth and weather resistance
- Stitched edges to resist fraying through repeated wrapping and unwrapping
- Sewn-on cotton twill tie tapes for secure fastening at the top of the wrap
- Long, narrow strip format that wraps spirally from ankle to just below the knee
- Rolled and tied for compact storage in a field kit, ruck, or display case
Who It Sells To
A reliable mover for shops serving militaria collectors, WWI and WWII reenactors, surplus enthusiasts, and vintage workwear fans. Outdoorsmen also pick up puttees as period-correct gaiters for traditional bushcraft, hunting, and cold-weather hiking — wool breathes, insulates even when damp, and shrugs off light brush better than synthetic gaiters. The earthy OD tone and woolen texture also appeal to fashion-leaning customers building a heritage or workwear-styled outfit.
Use & Care
To wear, start at the boot top, wrap upward in overlapping spirals to just below the knee, and secure with the sewn-in ties. Brush clean and air out after use; spot-clean as needed and avoid machine washing to preserve the wool's structure.
