Description
A genuine pair of East German (NVA / DDR) Sergeant shoulder boards in the distinctive burgundy/maroon piping associated with the Stasi (Ministerium für Staatssicherheit) and State Security Police. New old stock from German military surplus, these boards are an authentic Cold War-era collectible that appeals to a wide and active customer base — surplus collectors, militaria specialists, Cold War reenactors, costume designers, film and theater wardrobe departments, and uniform restorers.
Each board is built on a grey wool field with a burgundy/maroon woven piping that frames the entire shape — the branch color used to identify Stasi and state security units within the East German uniform system. A double row of silver NCO braid runs around the inside edge, marking the wearer as a non-commissioned officer (Unteroffizier / Sergeant grade). A single button hole is positioned at the top so the boards can be mounted to a uniform tunic in the traditional manner.
Why It Sells
DDR and Stasi-related insignia have a strong, steady following. Original surplus boards in unissued condition are increasingly difficult to source, which makes them an easy add-on for any shop carrying German militaria, Cold War surplus, or reenactment supplies. They also cross over nicely into the fashion-forward surplus segment, where genuine Eastern Bloc insignia is prized for jacket and bag customization.
