Description
The East German Grey Tanker Helmet Liner is a genuine NVA (Nationale Volksarmee) surplus piece — an original-issue insulating hood worn inside the East German tanker's padded helmet during the Cold War. Issued to armored crews of the DDR, this liner added warmth, cushioning, and a soft barrier against the rigid outer shell during long hours in cramped vehicle interiors. It is a real piece of Eastern Bloc military history, not a modern remake, and it carries genuine field-use character.
The construction is straightforward and purpose-built: a diamond-quilted grey cotton outer shell paired with a thick, plush pile lining for insulation. The cut covers the crown of the head, wraps around the ears, and extends down the nape of the neck, with a reinforced oval cut-out at each ear to fit the integrated communications earpieces of the East German tanker helmet. The deep neck flap tucks under the collar of a tunic or coverall to seal out cold air.
Who It Sells To
This is a strong stock item for shops serving militaria collectors, Cold War and DDR/NVA reenactors, military vehicle restorers, and surplus enthusiasts. It also appeals to display builders completing a tanker helmet set, and to cold-weather hunters and outdoorsmen who appreciate genuine-issue warm headwear at an affordable price point.

Condition
Supplied in used condition. As with all originally-issued surplus, expect honest signs of service — light staining, creases, faded markings, or minor wear consistent with depot storage and field use.
