Description
Genuine East German (NVA) issue field canteen with cup and Strichtarn "rain pattern" camouflage cover — authentic Cold War-era surplus straight from the supply channels of the former Nationale Volksarmee. The design follows the classic German pattern, with a metal drinking cup inverted over the top of the canteen body and held in place by a leather retention strap with metal buckle. The fabric cover wraps the canteen and secures with two snap buttons, protecting the body from dents and insulating the contents against temperature swings.
For military surplus collectors, Cold War reenactors, and DDR/NVA enthusiasts, this is a hard-to-fake piece of original-issue kit. The unmistakable Strichtarn vertical-streak camouflage pattern is one of the most recognizable Eastern Bloc patterns ever fielded, and a complete canteen-with-cover set in this print is a strong shelf piece for any surplus shop. Outdoorsmen, bushcrafters, and preppers also appreciate the simple, field-proven format: a 1-quart bottle plus a metal cup that doubles as a mess tin or coffee mug over a fire.
Authentic Used Condition
These canteens are used surplus and will show honest field-use character — expect scuffs on the aluminum bodies, patina on the buckle hardware, broken-in leather straps, and natural fading or staining on the Strichtarn fabric cover. That wear is the mark of a real-issue piece, not a defect. Each set ships complete with canteen body, drinking cup, leather strap, and snap-closure camo cover.
