Description

The US EE-8 Field Phone is one of the most recognizable pieces of 20th-century military communications gear — a sound-powered, hand-cranked field telephone that connected command posts, observation points and forward positions through miles of twisted-pair field wire. Issued in huge numbers from World War II through Korea and into the early Vietnam era, the EE-8 also went on to serve allied armies including the Belgian Armed Forces, whose A.B.L. (Armée Belge / Belgisch Leger) markings are clearly stamped on this surplus example. Each unit is a genuine piece of history pulled from long-term storage, ready to be cleaned up, displayed or pressed back into service on a hobbyist's field-wire net.

This listing is a fast-moving crossover product: it appeals to militaria collectors and WWII/Korea reenactors who want an authentic radio-room or CP prop, to vintage tech enthusiasts who actually wire up working field-phone networks, and to interior decorators and lifestyle buyers drawn to the patina of original olive drab canvas and stenciled unit markings. Stocked alongside helmets, ammo cans and surplus packs, it adds instant authenticity to any military-surplus display.

About the EE-8

The EE-8 is a local-battery field telephone powered by two internal D-cell batteries (not included) and signaled by a hand-crank magneto generator that rings the receiving station's bell. The integrated H-33 style handset, push-to-talk handle, line terminals and ringer are all housed inside a sturdy fiberboard/metal body that drops into the canvas carrier. Units can be wired point-to-point or through a switchboard, and remain a favorite of historical communications hobbyists because they can still talk to other EE-8s and TA-312 phones on twisted-pair WD-1 wire.

The OD Canvas Carrier

Each phone ships in its original olive drab cotton canvas case with reinforced binding, top flap closure with turn-button stud, and adjustable web carrying strap with metal slide buckle. Side straps secure the phone body inside the case, while a cut-out front panel gives access to the line terminals and crank without removing the unit. The canvas shown is stenciled with Belgian A.B.L. markings — "TELEPHONE EE-8-Bg" and a red unit number — adding strong visual character that retail buyers can lean into for window displays and themed merchandising.

Who It Sells To

A natural pickup for surplus stores, militaria specialists, reenactor outfitters and gift shops near historical sites and battlefields. End buyers include WWII/Korea/Vietnam reenactors building authentic CP and signals impressions, collectors completing a US-issue commo set, prop houses for film and theatre, and home decorators chasing a rugged industrial-military aesthetic. Because each piece is a one-of-a-kind surplus item with its own markings and patina, it photographs well online and moves quickly from glass-case displays.

Note on condition: these are inspected surplus units, not refurbished electronics. Cosmetic condition, completeness of internal wiring, handset cords and accessories will vary from piece to piece — sold as a collector/display item with no guarantee of operational performance.
